Public Participation & Review
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC) requires any application to construct or operate an LNG facility in the United
States to include a comprehensive public participation and review process in order
to identify a wide variety of potential impacts that may be caused by the construction
and/or operation of an LNG facility.
LNG project applicants are required to engage all regional stakeholders, including
nearby
residents, community members, area workers and other interested members of
the public in early discussions and resolution of issues that must be addressed
for each project before a formal application is filed. For example, public meetings
are required by FERC and act as a forum for citizens’ questions and input.

project’s timeline.

complete list of the federal, state and regional agencies
that will be involved with the review process of the Calais LNG application.
If at any time you want FERC or other federal, state or local agencies to consider
your views on the various issues involved in the location and/or operation of the
facility, you can do so by simply writing a letter to FERC or the appropriate state
or local agency. You may also call FERC toll free at 1-866-208-3372.
If you contact FERC directly, you will be placed on a mailing list to receive environmental
and other documents relating to the Calais LNG project.
Calais LNG will also maintain a
regular mailing list for updating the public and interested parties about our project’s
status. Community announcements and further information will also be posted on this
web site as they become available and can be viewed or downloaded by visiting our
Project Updates
page.
All of FERC’s records on a proposed project are accessible and can be obtained from
the
FERC web site.
In addition, because Calais LNG will be applying for permits under Maine’s Site
Location of Development Act and Natural Resources Protection Act, we will be holding
Public Information Meetings before submitting these applications. Calais LNG will
publicize these meetings on this web site, in local newspapers and by directly
contacting those property owners who abut the proposed facility’s property.
Calais LNG encourages members of the public to contact us directly with your comments,
suggestions or questions. You may contact us either by
e-mail,
by mail
or by phone at (207) 214-7074. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 133, Calais,
Maine 04619.
You are also invited to visit us at our offices on Main Street in downtown Calais. |
